Enjoy the fresh sea air and discover the rich history as you explore the outdoor surroundings of Fort Kijkduin. Located in the heart of the dunes, the fort serves as the perfect starting point for walking and cycling routes through the Helderse Dunes.
Along the way, you’ll be treated to expansive views of the Grafelijkheidsduinen, the North Sea, the Wadden Sea, the sandbank Razende Bol, and Texel. A perfect blend of nature, tranquility, and history.
A part of the fort route takes you through the dunes and past bunkers from World War I, which are recognized as a provincial monument. Along the way, you will also discover the unique diamond moat with caponnières, connected to the fort via an underground tunnel.
These historic dunes were formed from the remnants of the old Wadden island of Huisduinen. The area is now a beautiful walking area that borders Fort Kijkduin, providing access to the Donkere Duinen and the idyllic Harmplas dune pond.
Just a short walk from the fort is the beach at Pole 0, where the North Sea and Wadden Sea meet. Here, you can enjoy stunning views of the coast and the surrounding nature.
